Kailey, a German shepherd mix dog, was just days from being put down when a lady stepped in and saved her life. little did that woman know, the tables would turn only a month later.
The adopted dog had been abused during her first two years of life. Who knows why anyone would do that to any animal let alone a helpless puppy?
The suffering puppy was finally rescued and taken into the DeKalb County Animal Services in Decatur, Ga. But sadly no one would adopt her, maybe they could see the pain in her eyes?
The puppy named ‘Kailey’ was not able to trust anyone. She had been staying with her foster family, Jacqueline Berlin and Keith Santer-Peham, but after over year of not being adopted, nothing more could be done and it was decided to put an end to her suffering.
It’s fair to say, the world had been cruel to Kailey.
“Her one issue was that something has happened to her in in her past so that if you try to touch her and she did not know you she would sometimes snap at you. Because of her issue, it was really hard to get her adopted,” Jacqueline said about the dog.
Jacqueline who worked at the animal shelter couldn’t bear to see the poor pooch euthanized, she was desperate. She posted on the animal shelter’s Facebook page, asking for some kind soul to come forward and rescue Kailey.
Suzy Chandler read the post and it touched her. She immediately applied to adopt Kailey and save her from impending death.
What Suzy was completely unaware of is that her act of kindness would be repaid only a few weeks down the line.
One day Suzy began to notice that Kailey was acting unusually. She had begun barking, which she rarely did, and then she started growling.
Suzy wondered what was wrong with her, she took Kailey outside to see if she could identify what was bothering her. Kailey rush around the side of the house and Suzy’s curiosity meant that she followed.
Once Suzy went around the corner she almost instantly noticed the strong smell of natural gas and could hear a hissing sound coming from the apartment complex next door. The apartments housed families with many children, which added to the severity of the situation.
Suzy rushed back inside and call 911!
The fire department arrived and immediately established that it was a gas leak, they rushed to get everyone out of the complex and did so safely.
Once the families were a safe distance they were able to bring the leak under control.
Suzy has recognised the huge importance of adopting animals and through her story, she is now reaching out to others to do the same.
“If you have space, you have room in your heart to take in a needy animal, to love on them, I mean it comes back to you tenfold.”
Karma really does come back around, Suzy is happy she could save Kailey’s life, Kailey was able to repay the favour.
We hope this story inspires you to go out and rescue an animal!
