…They Found Him
Poachers are claiming the lives of sloth bears in India. Not only that but humans keep encroaching on their territory, endangering not only to the sloth bear but others as well. Animals are exposed and more vulnerable, finding food becomes more challenging. Eventually, the animals end up wandering onto someone’s property and may destroy crops. Of course, this is unacceptable to residents, so they set up snares and traps.
The tiny sloth bear is still clinging to its dead mother. The mother had been killed by poachers. The poachers set up a high-voltage wire on the edge of a tiger reserve in India. The mother was electrocuted and killed when she walked across it. A rescue team found the tiny cub nursing from his dead mother.
The team of rescuers was from Agra Bear Rescue Facility (ABRF), located in Uttar Pradesh, India.
Dr. Amol Narwade, a veterinarian, said that the baby bear is quite traumatized and will need to be closely watched for some time.
It is lucky that the baby bear was found.
If not it is likely that he would have been sold.
Sloth bears are used as either “dancing bears” to entertain people or as bait for dogs.
People train their dogs to be more aggressive by letting them attack bears. The baby bear in this story has begun his recovery.
