n today’s society, it’s almost trendy to have an allergy to a particular food. The most common seem to be lactose intolerance and gluten intolerance. Even though many people roll their eyes when they hear this, you shouldn’t underestimate the serious problems that can be caused by gluten. It’s important to note that gluten intolerance is not actually an allergy, but a sign of a stomach acid problem. The intolerance occurs when undigested gluten proteins in the digestive system are treated like foreign objects in the body. This triggers stomach discomfort and simultaneously hinders the body’s ability to absorb nutrients. The most obvious signs of an intolerance to a certain food are diarrhea and nausea, but here are some other symptoms that may appear if you are gluten intolerant.
1. Chronic migraines
Headaches often occur in people who suffer gluten intolerance. Although it’s not linked to a particular type of headache, the pain usually occurs around 30-60 minutes after eating.
2. Itchy skin
If there is a problem with the digestive tract, it can sometimes manifest itself externally through itchiness and/or eczema, dry and irritated skin.

4. Lactose intolerance
Gluten and lactose intolerance often have the same symptoms and some times they are even the result of one another. People who are lactose intolerant often can’t handle gluten either. Important symptoms of lactose intolerance are heart burn, feeling bloated, and generally feeling unwell after eating.
5. Chronic fatigue
It makes sense that the intense strain on your body would make you feel constantly overwhelmed. So it’s completely understandable if you are always tired and exhausted. If you sleep 8-9 hours per night and still wake up feeling exhausted, perhaps you should look a little more closely at what you’re eating.
6. Mood swings
If your body is unhappy, then your spirit often is too. People with gluten intolerance often feel nervous or excited for no apparent reason. They can also be short-tempered and irritable. Depressive moods can sometimes even be linked to gluten.
7. Stomach aches
This is one of the most obvious signs your body can send. If you don’t eat well, or the body doesn’t handle the food very well, then the stomach complains often via pain and nausea.
Many people who have gluten intolerance feel dizzy after eating, as if they are trying to walk through a fog. It is a similar feeling that you or I would get if we lost our balance.
If you have one or more of these symptoms regularly after eating, then perhaps it’s worth a trip to the doctor. The solution to your problem could be quite simple — you won’t have to do anything but avoid a particular food and these days it’s easier than ever to eat gluten free if you need to.
