Michael Fishbach, co-founder of The Great Whale Conservancy (GWC) and his team came across a young humpback whale.
Initially they thought the creature was dead, entangled in nets of local fishermen until it rolled slightly and forced a huge breath from it’s blowhole.
Unable to swim and struggling to roll enough to breathe, the humans knew they had to act fast as their task rapidly turned into a rescue mission.
It was a laborious task but eventually Valentina, affectionately named by her saviours, was freed.
The incredible video below, narrated by Fishbach himself, not only shows the rescue but the amazing display Valentina put on for her rescuers to say thanks and show her appreciation.
