Bear Jumps For Joy After Being Saved From Life Of Torture Inside Small Cage

After being subject to years of torture while being held captive on a bear bile farm, Tuffy was finally rescued and given a chance to fully recover at a Vietnam sanctuary. The footage of the newly freed bear jumping for joy in his new home has gone viral and melted hearts everywhere.

Tuffy, alongside six other bears, was rescued in September 2015 from a bile farm in which they endured years of abuse. Bile bears are bears that are kept in small cages in order to harvest their bile, which is used by some traditional Chinese medicine practitioners.

Animals Asia Foundation estimates that there are around 1,200 bears being held captive in bile farms in Vietnam and over 10,000 more in China. The government-registered charity has become devoted to rescuing these suffering bears and seek to end the barbaric practice entirely.

Tuffy was luckily found by Animals Asia and brought back to their Vietnam Bear Sanctuary to recover. The bear had been living in pain for years, his paws were notably cracked and he had to have his gallbladder and three fractured teeth removed. Luckily, Tuffy was finally able to experience freedom once again and his reaction proved just how grateful he was.

Tuffy was visibly ecstatic in Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear Sanctuary, embracing his freedom by joyfully jumping and splashing around the semi-natural outdoor enclosure. In fact, Tuffy loved his newfound liberty that he didn’t even return to his den during the evening and chose to sleep under the stars.

“It must have felt like such a relief to have the freedom to splash around in the water after only being able to stand on the hard metal bars of the bile farm cage,” Animals Asia Bear Manager Louise Ellis said.Animals Asia’s footage of Tuffy has been circulating around the Internet and helping to create awareness for the cruelty of bile bear farming. The YouTube video has already amassed over 2 million views and counting.
