In the United States, dogs are so beloved that many dog owners call their pets their children and treat them with as much care and love as an actual baby. In other parts of the world, however, dogs are treated like pests or even like food.
In China, dogs abuse is much more common as over 10 million dogs are killed each year for their meat. Recently, footage of that abuse by villagers from the Henan province was caught on camera and shared online after they were filmed tying a poor dog up and boiling it alive in a wok placed over a fire.
It’s not clear when the incident happened, but the sickening footage has gone viral this week as many are outraged that the helpless animal was boiled alive and tortured in order to make the dog’s meat tougher, which they believe gives the meat more health benefits.
“The only way to get the meat tough is to flood the conscious animal’s body with adrenaline,” said Michele Brown, founder of the Fight Dog Meat organization. “Most of the times the aim is not to kill the dog straight away… sometimes they will be tortured for hours.”
Thankfully, however, the dog in the footage was not critically injured from the abuse and managed to run free after falling out of the wok and onto the ground.
